Lakewood Ranch has evolved from a timber plantation and ranch in the early 1900's into an 8,500 acre master planned community that includes several golfing communities, shopping, dining, A-rated schools, a hospital, parks, polo club, athletic club and over 150 miles of sidewalks and trails.

Lakewood Ranch History

Milwaukee, Wisconsin native John Schroeder began acquiring the land in the early 1900's. In 1922, the Uihlein family, owner of the Schlitz Brewing Company acquired the land and continued to expand the cattle, agriculture and timber operations. The ranch included over 31,000 acres in Manatee and Sarasota County. The Schroeder Manatee Ranch today continues its 100 year history of agricultural diversity including: cattle, citrus, vegetables and timber, to name a few.

Development of Lakewood Ranch began in 1994 and has grown into the largest master-planned "green" community in the United States. Every village is built using more responsible and healthy techniques so that properties are more energy efficient and environmentally responsible.

Wow! Lakewood Ranch looks gorgeous! Polo fields, theatre and golf to everyday necessities like schools, hospitals and more...this master planned community seems as though nothing was left out. What a pleasure to be selling homes to people in this warm and friendly environment. I'm sold! :-)

What a small world this is! I believe my parents and aunt and uncle's wedding reception was held at the Schroeder Hotel in Milwaukee!

I love Longboat Key! There is no other place on the Gulf Coast of Florida that compares.
